Features

Every step of the round, and the awkward bits between them

Most tools handle one stage well and hand you a CSV for the rest. The Hub keeps the form, the data, the checks, the charts and the report attached to each other — so a correction in one place shows up everywhere it matters.

Feature breakdown

Form builder

Thirteen question types, and none of them need an XLSForm sheet

Drag fields into order, group them into sections, mark what is required, add a hint the enumerator will actually read. Rating and Likert questions take a weight, so an appraisal or a scored assessment produces its overall figure automatically.

One-click Kobo deploy

Save your KoboToolbox token once. After that, deploying builds the XLSForm, creates and publishes the asset, switches on open submissions, and hands back a link plus a printable QR code.

Re-deploying keeps the same form id, so QR codes already printed and handed out keep working.

Validation that stays attached to the form

Set the rules once — ranges, required combinations, cross-field impossibilities — and they run on every record, every round, including data that arrives months later.

valid Passed every rule
warning Plausible, but worth a second look
error Cannot be right — fix before reporting

Sync that does not clobber your work

Submissions are matched on their Kobo id and updated in place. New ones are added, existing ones refreshed — and rows you typed in by hand or imported from a spreadsheet are left exactly as they were.

Deleting a project cleans up its forms, records, charts, reports and rules together, so nothing lingers unowned.

Analytics that already know your form

Because the Hub built the form, it knows which fields are categorical, which are numeric and which are scales. It offers the analyses that fit — counts by province, averages by facility type, Likert distributions, responses by enumerator — as a starting set you can prune.

Bar Line Pie & donut Area Radar Word cloud Cross-tab

Cross-tabs without a pivot table

Put any two questions against each other and get counts, row and column percentages. The comparison every donor asks for — water access by province, score band by school level — without leaving the browser.

Field monitor

Live collection progress by enumerator and location, average time per interview, and which sites are still untouched — while you can still do something about it.

English and Khmer, throughout

Not a translated marketing page — the interface itself switches. Navigation, field types, statuses, roles and report sections all have Khmer equivalents.

In the field

Designed for a phone, one thumb, and no signal

Once a form is deployed, enumerators open it from the QR code or the link — no account, no app store detour if they are using the web form. For long routes, KoboCollect stores submissions on the device and uploads them when a connection turns up.

  • Open submissions: no KoboToolbox username or password to hand out
  • GPS, photo and date questions use the device's own pickers
  • Required fields are enforced before a submission can be sent
  • Print the QR once — it survives every re-deploy of the form

Template library

27 forms, already written by someone who has run the survey

Each one is a full instrument — sections, hints, choice lists, weights — not a three-field stub. Deploy as-is, or treat it as a first draft and edit it into your own.

Nothing that fits?

Build from an empty form. The builder is the same one the templates were written in, and anything you make can be saved and reused across projects.

Reports & exports

Four layouts, your branding, live numbers

Pick a layout, choose which sections to include, and the report assembles itself from the current dataset. Regenerate after a correction and the figures move with it.

Executive summary

Findings, charts and recommendations, short enough to be read in a meeting.

Field report

Cover page, methodology, findings and recommendations — the shape a field visit write-up takes.

Technical report

Methodology and appendix carry the weight, with the full chart set attached.

Donor report

Executive summary through to appendix, formatted for someone outside the programme.

Available sections

Exports

  • PDF, with your logo and primary colour applied
  • Excel workbook of the underlying records
  • CSV, for whoever insists on a CSV
  • Individual charts as images, for slides

Works with what you already use

Five ways data gets in

KoboToolbox

Deploy from the Hub, sync submissions back. The main path.

ODK Collect

Bring ODK exports into the same tables and checks.

Google Forms

Import the response sheet when a form already exists.

CSV & Excel

Upload historic rounds so trends have something to compare against.

Paper forms

Key them in against the same form, with the same validation.

Reading about it only goes so far
